How Long Do Oven-Baked Pork Chops Need to Cook?

This recipe is for bone-in chops that are about an inch thick. If your chops are thinner or thicker, you may need to adjust cooking time. They might cook a little faster if you’re using boneless pork chops. Here’s a rough guide for pork chop cook times based on thickness:

  1. ½-inch = 12 minutes
  2. 1-inch = 25 minutes
  3. 1½-inch = 35 mins

Of course, a meat thermometer is the best way to know when pork chops are done. You want them to reach at least 145℉ (63℃), as per USDA instructions.

Recipe Ingredients

Recipe Ingredients
  1. Pork Chops – I do four pork chops at a time for my family, but you can do more or less depending on how many you’re serving.
  2. Olive Oil binds the seasonings together and helps them stick to the pork chops. They also give the chops a subtle but delicious crunch.
  3. Seasonings – Creole seasoning, Italian seasoning, and brown sugar are all you need to jazz up these delicious pork chops. 👌

How to Oven-Bake 4 Ingredient Pork Chops

Make the seasoning mix, season the meat, and bake
  • Preheat the oven to 350℉ (180℃). Pat your pork chops dry, and then season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Mix Seasonings – In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, sugar, Creole seasoning, and Italian seasoning until it forms a paste. (Photo 1)
  • Season the pork chops generously with the paste. Marinate them in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. (Photo 2)
  • Bake – Transfer the seasoned pork chops onto a lined baking pan. Bake them for 20-25 minutes or until they reach a safe internal temperature. (Photos 3-4)
  • Serve – Let the pork chops rest for about 5 minutes. Then, serve with your favorite sides.

Recipe Variations

  1. Grill or smoke ’em! You can follow this recipe exactly, and then, instead of baking, opt for grilled or even smoked pork chops. Just cook them, flipping once, until they reach an internal temperature of 145℉ (63℃).
  2. Swap seasonings. Feel free to swap out the Creole and Italian seasonings for any spice blend you like. Pork chop seasoning works well here, or use whatever spices sound appealing to you at the moment.
  3. Try a marinade. Instead of a herby paste, marinate your pork chops overnight. An Asian marinade with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger; a citrusy marinade with fresh squeezed citrus and loads of garlic; or any other marinade you enjoy! 😋

Tips and Tricks

  1. Choose pork chops that all have about the same size and thickness for an even bake.
  2. Don’t skip the resting. Those extra five minutes allow the juices to redistribute and keep the chops from feeling dried out when you dig in.
  3. Lining your baking sheet is optional, but boy, does it make cleanup a breeze. I highly recommend not skipping this step, either!

Make-Ahead Instructions

Oven-baked pork chops reheat well, so feel free to make them ahead of time. Refrigerate them in an airtight container or ziplock bag for 3-5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months.

Serving and Storage Instructions

Serve these pork chops hot out of the oven just as soon as they’ve rested.

If you have leftovers, keep them in the fridge in an airtight container. To reheat, pop them in the microwave, on the grill, or back in the oven. Go for lower temperatures for a little longer to retain the chops’ juiciness. About 10 minutes at 300℉ (150℃) usually works for me.

What Goes With 4-Ingredient Oven-Baked Pork Chops

Veggies and carbs! Try them with mashed potatoes or roasted carrots and potatoes. I usually include plenty of veggies, too. Warm sauteed spinach is delish, or try it with a refreshing broccoli salad.

Wine Pairing: Pork is so versatile. A full-bodied white wine (Chardonnay or Riesling) or fruity red wine (Pinot Noir or Beaujolais)is fabulous.

As stated earlier the pork chops came out great and were hit at the table. Although I noticed how yours had a light gravy redish in color. Any suggestions?

So glad they turned out great:) My Creole seasoning has a lot of paprika and cayenne in it. That will make the gravy red.
