Ground Beef Curry aka minced curry  – An easy South African meal with earthy and aromatic flavors made with minced or ground beef, potatoes, peas flavored with curry powder, paprika, ground ginger and other spices. Guaranteed for a fabulous meal even on busy weeknights!

Ground Beef Curry

We do love anything curry in our house, especially me! There’s something captivating about that curry aroma and the earthy, perfect balance of sweet and savory with a hint of heat.

My obsession took me to making my own homemade curry powder that tastes way better than store-bought. Trust me! You won’t buy those you find at the grocery store soon after you have your first meal using my homemade curry. My top performing curry posts could attest to that. 😉

Ground Beef Curry

You can try this easy Jamaican Curry Shrimp first (VIDEO included) or or if you want to go vegan, go ahead and try my recent recipe – Chickpea Curry.

There’s so many ways you can enjoy curry flavors. And this minced curry recipe here is a great addition to your menu.

It’s waaay too easy to prepare and packed with minced meat and potatoes and peas, which is still healthy-ish, right?!? Aside from that, it uses readily available ingredients that are mostly sitting in your pantry. Even new home cooks could totally nail this minced curry recipe on a whim.

Ground Beef Curry

You may serve this over with warm white rice (watch out for second helpings.. 😀 ) or a tasty homemade flatbread

Ground Beef Curry

This ground beef curry dish knows no season; it is always as enjoyable as it is during cold or warmer days. Don’t worry! Cooking this won’t heat up the whole house. So that’d still fit as a perfect summer family weeknight meal.

Enjoy!

So good and so easy! I tried it out last night with store bought curry powder and it was amazing – gonna do it with homemade curry powder next. I would also like to make it without the potatoes and water to make a dryer mix for stuffing squash!

Hi! I’m making this recipe and a few of your others for our family dinner and a movie night next week and am trying to “shop” our freezers and pantry. Could I use canned potatoes instead of raw, or do you think they’d turn to mush? Thanks!

Hey, I’m all about shortcuts and using what I have in the pantry. I think canned potatoes would work fine, but wouldn’t add them until about 5 minutes before adding the peas. You just want to heat them through, not overcook them. Let me know how it works out. ❤️

Hi Errol, Yes, you should be able to freeze it. It should last in the freezer for up to three months. Stay tuned for more amazing recipes. Thanks

This was so tasty! My son made it for his cooking project for school A+. We used a lot of your recipes as they cooked their way thru their Africa study this past year. What a taste explosion for us.
How can I substitute canned tomatoes for fresh? Would that work? And which kind & how much?
    Thank you so much!

Hello Jenny! You can use the same amount required for the recipe and use any kind that is available to you. But, don’t be afraid to add more if you like, it’s alright because we have different preferences in cooking. 🙂

What a disappointment this was! I was brought up on Keema and I am now 60 yrs old therefore I know my stuff! I tried two different recipes for this today and I spent an hour on each, ‘tweeting’ them.
Sorry, but not for me but okay for those that want a quick fix.

Hi Gillian! Glad you enjoyed the recipe 🙂 You may simmer longer until your potatoes are tender for next time.

This recipe NEVER fails. I tend to add more potatoes and fluid (red wine) because I prefer the potatoes rather than cook rice……its one of the only recipes that I don’t put my own twist on. It’s perfect as it is.
    Thankyou

I was looking for an alternative to my native Latino picadillo dish, when I came across this recipe. We loved it. It has everything, spice, heat, vegetables. Just Wow! This will be added to my regular rotation.
